Randall Rochon
Hall of Honor Class of 2024
Randall Rochon is a distinguished WMU alumnus and United Airlines Captain whose impactful career and unwavering commitment to aviation have inspired countless future leaders. Graduating from Western Michigan University in 2003 with a degree in Aviation Flight Science and Minor in Business, Randall’s aviation journey began several years early and has been marked by significant contributions to the field. In 1999, he became involved with the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP), and during his time at WMU, he founded the organization which eventually evolved into the OBAP - WMU Chapter. Randall’s early connection to WMU began as a participant in an aviation camp, and since graduation, he has consistently returned to mentor students and support the organization he helped establish. Randall actively engages with OBAP - WMU members, providing guidance on their academic and career goals. Throughout his career, he has navigated challenging times in the industry, earning promotions as a pilot for American Eagle, ExpressJet, JetBlue, eventually rising to the ranks of Captain, Line Check Pilot, Pilot Recruiter and Aviate Ambassador at United Airlines. In addition to his professional achievements in OBAP, Randall has held multiple board and program director positions. He has conducted Ace Academy Enrichment programs in the Virgin Islands, New York, Ft. Lauderdale and Hawaii, introducing hundreds of kids to aviation - some who are currently flying for the regional and major airlines including our armed forces. He is currently the Chair of the WMU College of Aviation Advisory Board and the Chair of the OBAP Board of Advisors. His dedication to mentorship and community outreach has made him an exceptional role model for students, reflecting his commitment to giving back to his alma mater and the broader aviation community. Most notably, Randall is the first person at Western Michigan University to receive the College of Aviation Excellence in Diversity award and be inducted into the Aviation Hall of Honor.
