Internship: Cleveland Center Weather Service Unit
Posted by Reina Cooke on February 25, 2019The Cleveland Center Weather Service Unit (CWSU) will be providing a volunteer opportunity for students for the summer of 2019. The Cleveland CWSU is co-located with the Cleveland Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC) in Oberlin, OH. Our goal is to provide the most up to date weather information to controllers at ZOB ARTCC and the underlying towers and TRACONs. Students, on average, volunteer 10 hours per week. We remain flexible as to which dates/times students can volunteer (including weekends and nights) depending on student's work and summer course schedule. The student's start date is dependent upon the background check clearance and the end date will be negotiable dependent on when students return for the fall semester. Unfortunately, this is an unpaid opportunity.
Please have students turn in their applications no later than Friday March 8th. The application must include a cover letter and resume and be sent to: lisa.hahn@noaa.gov.
Here are the key duties/responsibilities for the volunteer opportunity:
The student is in a training assignment, observing and/or learning the functions of forecasting and warning operations at the Cleveland Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC) Center Weather Service Unit (CWSU). Under supervision of the forecast staff, the student will assist in:
· Generation of weather forecasts and other locally generated products utilizing state of the art NWS and FAA equipment
· Interaction with Air Traffic Controllers and Traffic Management in a multi-agency environment
· Solicitation of warning products
· Weather analysis and pilot report (PIREP) interpretation
· Meteorological research project
This is a great opportunity for student in all facets of aviation and meteorology. If you have any questions, please feel free to email Lisa.hahn@noaa.gov.
Application deadline: Friday, March 8th.
