Posted by Reina Cooke on February 19, 2019Funded by generous donations to the AOPA Foundation, AOPA Primary Flight Training scholarship awards range from $2,500 to $7,500. Current AOPA members who are at least 16 years of age by the application deadline are eligible to apply. The scholarship award can be applied to training for a private pilot, sport pilot, or recreational pilot certificate.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Scholarship applicants must meet all the following criteria:
1. Current member of AOPA at both the time of application and when the scholarship is awarded. Not a member? AOPA offers a free six-month membership for student pilots and other membership options.

U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident.

Be at least 16 years of age by the time the application closes. There are no exceptions to this; if you will not be 16 years old by April 2, 2019, then you are not eligible to apply.

Hold a current FAA Student Pilot Certificate at the time of application or have a pending Student Pilot Certificate application in IACRA. See the FAQs below for more details.

Not have completed the FAA practical test/checkride at the time of application.
