William M. Fanning Maintenance Scholarship
About:
The William M. Fanning Maintenance Scholarship supported by NBAA Charities, annually awards $2,500 to each of two applicants pursuing careers as maintenance technicians. One award will benefit a student who is currently enrolled in an accredited airframe and powerplant (A&P) program at an approved FAR Part 147 school. The second award will benefit an individual who is not currently enrolled but has been accepted for enrollment in an A&P program. The scholarship is named in honor of retired NBAA staff member William M. Fanning, who was active in maintenance issues during his nearly 20-year tenure at the Association.
Awards will be made to U.S. citizens without regard to sex, race, religion or national origin. Scholarships will be awarded in the fall of 2023, and checks will be made payable to the school. Scholarship recipients must use the funds by Dec. 31, 2024, or risk forfeit of the award.
Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Completed application package, which consists of essay, resume, official transcript or acceptance letter and one signed letter of recommendation, must be received by NBAA no later than August 13, 2023, to be considered for the scholarship. See application for full details. For all NBAA Charities scholarships, applicants are limited to receiving one award per person, per year.
Award Amount: Two awards of $2,500 for educational costs
Notification/Award Period: Scholarship awarded during the fall. Scholarship recipients must use the funds by Dec. 31, 2024, or risk forfeit of the award.

Applicant Requirements:
Business aviation maintenance technician
- U.S. Citizen / Permanent Resident of the U.S.
- Applicant must submit complete application package, which consists of 1. Current Resume 2. Essay 3. Official Transcript or Acceptance Letter 4. One signed letter of recommendation
- Completed application package must be submitted by the application deadline of August 13th 2023.
