Higher Education and Student Affairs MA student, Kierna Brown, selected as NASPA IV-E Graduate Student Rising Star for Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Kierna Brown (they/them/theirs), second year graduate student in the M.A. in higher education and student affairs (HESA) program, was selected as the 2020-2021 Graduate Student Rising Star Award recipient for the State of Michigan by Region IV-East of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA). This award is presented to a student pursuing a masters or doctoral degree related to student affairs at a college or university within each state of Region IV-East and recognizes demonstrated excellence in the classroom, leadership and innovation in their assistantship, and potential for significant contributions to the student affairs profession. In addition to being enrolled as a full-time student in the M.A. in HESA program, Kierna also works as a graduate assistant for Residence Life at Kalamazoo College.

The National Association of Student Personnel Administrators is a member-centered association supporting a diverse and passionate network of 15,000 student affairs professionals and 1,200 institutions of higher education across the globe. The association is one of two major professional associations serving the needs of higher education and student affairs professionals working on college and university campuses. NASPA Region IV-E is a regional arm of NASPA, dedicated to serving the needs of NASPA members in what would broadly be described as the Upper Midwest. NASPA Region IV-E encompasses the state of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin and the Canadian province of Ontario.
