Associate professors co-edit special issue of international journal
Nov. 17, 2017
Kalamazoo, Mich. – Drs. Regina Garza Mitchell and Brian Horvitz, Associate Professors in the College of Education and Human Development at Western Michigan University, guest edited a special issue of the Community College Journal of Research and Practice. The issue is titled Online Technical Education in the Community College.
Published in January 2017, this special issue examines how a variety of National Science Foundation funded technical education projects are applying online and hybrid education technologies in the design, development and delivery of what have traditionally been hands-on courses. Eight articles written by community college faculty and staff describe a variety of innovative technology-based strategies technical education programs are using to help teach students in a range discipline areas such as cybersecurity, photonics, and building science.
Additionally, Dr. Garza Mitchell contributed a review of the published research in this area titled “Online Career and Technical Education in the Community College” and Dr. Horvitz contributed a look ahead in this area titled “Future Directions for Research on Online Technical Education”. This special issue can be found in Volume 41, Issue 6 of the Community College Journal of Research and Practice.
