Student Rooms
Room types
Western Michigan University residence hall rooms are typically assigned as "doubles," or two people sharing a room. In Draper/Siedschlag and the Burnhams there are a limited number of architecturally larger rooms designated as triples and quads. Henry hall also has triple rooms. Single room assignments may be available in all halls for an additional per-night rate depending on availability. Virtual tours of a room in each hall are available on YouTube.
Furniture
Residence hall rooms are furnished with the following:
- Bed frame per person
- Mattress per person
- One to two dressers
- Two desks
- Two desk chairs
- One phone jack with local service
- Two Ethernet jacks
- One cable outlet
- Blinds
- Ceiling and desk lights
- Towel bars
You are welcome to supplement these furnishing with your own furniture and carpeting to make your room more personal. The furniture provided by the University is not allowed to leave the residence hall. Triples and quads have a desk and chair per person. Suite bathrooms have two medicine cabinets, two sinks, four towel bars, a toilet and a shower with a shower curtain. A shower curtain is also provided in the individual bathrooms in Davis.
Loftable furniture
Most residence halls have loftable furniture in them, so the beds can be elevated to increase your floor space. Personal lofts cannot be built in those halls.
Decorating
Part of the fun of living on campus is the opportunity to make the space yours. Pictures, posters, lights, plants, etc. are all a part of making it home. Prohibited decorating items include contact paper on walls, doors or door frames, painting in the room and memo boards on room doors. Only items posted by the hall staff are allowed on the outside of residence hall room doors and hallways.
Vendors
Residence Life works with select outside vendors to provide additional services for students. These vendors rent or sell common items students have in their rooms. Items include carpet, futon, lofts and MicroFridges.
