Racial Injustice Statement

Sindecuse Health Center and Counseling Services staff and faculty at Western Michigan University recognize the nature and severity of racial trauma. In the wake of the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless other Black Americans we unequivocally denounce racism in all its forms and acknowledge Black Lives Matter.

In response to the on-going racial trauma and division in our country, we recommit ourselves to support Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) students, staff and faculty at WMU. Further, we acknowledge that we have continued work to do ourselves in understanding and directly confronting racist systems so that equity for all can be achieved. Although many of our staff, faculty, and administrators can never truly know what racist experiences are like, we are committed to our own learning, to listening, and to supporting BIPOC campus community members.
