Sindecuse Health Center Achieves AAAHC Accreditation
After an extensive evaluation process by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Sindecuse Health Center has renewed its accreditation by this national accrediting body. Being accredited means the center has met nationally recognized standards for delivery of quality health care. Accreditation is recognized as a marker of excellence by medical organizations, insurance companies, state and federal agencies, and the public.
The health center was surveyed in June by an AAAHC expert in quality care standards– a medical professional with deep background in college health care.
“While we were confident in the quality of our practice, it’s gratifying to know that an outside expert confirms the work we’re doing to provide excellent care everyday” said Dr. Gayle Ruggiero, the center’s medical director. “We take adherence to high standards seriously, and are thrilled that our efforts have been recognized—not for just getting by, but for doing so beyond a doubt! It’s a testament to the staff and faculty who make Sindecuse Health Center the valued resource it is for WMU.”
The visiting accreditor, Kristina Benkeser, MSN, Student Health Services director of Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania, praised many aspects of the health center and our efforts to meet AAAHC standards. Some highlights noted:
- "Flawless" credentialing and privileging records
- "Superior" results of random medical record review
- "Fabulous" Quality Improvement dashboard and program
- "Huge strides-- role model" for infection control
Accreditation is granted for a three-year period. The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, founded in 1979, is the leader in ambulatory health care accreditation with more than 5,000 organizations accredited nationwide.
