New Team to Lead the Health Center
After twelve years at Western Michigan University, the center's director, Dr. Lisa Marshall, retires on Nov. 21. To ensure a smooth transition, an interim executive team has been formed to provide leadership for the health center. The new team will collaborate closely with WMU Student Affairs vice president, Dr. Diane Anderson.
Dr. Gayle Ruggiero will lead the health center as medical director. Ruggiero is the health center’s psychiatrist and will head the Interim Executive Team. She will serve as director for the clinician department as well as providing oversight and direction to nursing, IT system specialists, and counseling services teams. Ruggiero previously practiced at the University of Toledo and Bowling Green in a career devoted to college health.
Dr. Brian Fuller, director of counseling services, will serve on the team to continue progress related to medical and mental health care integration. He will provide support for continuing education, professional development and coordinate diversity and inclusion efforts.
Will Arbogast is the director of the sports medicine clinic. As part of the new team, he will take on additional duties related to financial reconciliation, pharmacy oversight, contracts, purchasing, payroll and budgets.
Joe VanDerBos will join the interim executive team in a new role incorporating supervision for the business services team, customer service and continued responsibility for health center marketing and communication.
